CRAB, Cancer Research Advocate Bikers, was formed in 2004 by Robbie Grimstone and a few fellow motorcyclists. Following the loss of Rob's mother
to Cancer they got together to discuss ways they could make a difference in the fight against Cancer. All enjoyed motorcycles, whether for work or pleasure, so it was decided to combine this passion for motorcycling with fundraising. They came up with CRAB,
a social motorcycle club designed for the purpose of raising funds for Cancer Research.
The CRAB strategy proved very successful and the club soon spread to other states and internationally. Since then hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised and donated to the cause.
There are several different clubs. Each club
is named after a crab indigenous to the area.
Queensland has the "Muddies"
Brisbane has the "Sandies"
Adelaide has the "Blueys"
Victoria has the Mornington Peninsula "Hermits"
NSW has the "Kingies" in Bermagui and the "Yabbies" in the Riverina
In Switzerland they have the "Hummers"
ALL branches of CRAB are non profit organizations
and all work is carried out by volunteers.
